A man who was charged with a decade-old rape after a DNA analysis implicated him earlier this year pleaded guilty Friday.

Brian Brent, 38, was convicted of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary with sexual motivation. He is set to be sentenced March 1.

Deputy prosecutor Lori Kooiman said she would recommend a sentence of 18 years to life. The defense is expected to ask for 13½ years to life. The state’s Indeterminate Sentence Review Board would determine the sentence’s end date.

Prosecutors say Brent entered a Tacoma woman’s home while she slept June 2, 2002, woke her and raped her.

The woman underwent a sexual assault examination at a hospital, and evidence collected during that exam was matched to Brent when he later was convicted of another crime.
