The Rogers girls bowling team is working on details as it prepares for the stretch run next month.
The Rams (3-4 South Puget Sound League) have been relying on Megan McAlister, Sierra Duda and freshman Alyssa Feller to pile up the pins.
Head coach Justin Wisness said McAlister is the player the Rams look to in pressure situations — and for moral support.
“Megan has been really consistent and finishes games really strong,” Wisness said. “She is our anchor bowler, and when we need a strike at the end of the game, she’s able to get those for us.
“She is just a natural leader. When the team starts getting down, she is always right there to pick everybody up and keep everyone cheerful.”
Wisness said Duda and Feller complement each other well.
“Sierra never gets too high or too low and is probably our most consistent bowler,” he said. “Alyssa has a great attitude and is just a rock-solid player for us. She is only a freshman. Her spare shooting continues to improve, and she listens very well to instruction.”
The Rams will enjoy some time off during winter break, but they will return to SPSL South action Jan. 7 against Bethel.
“The postseason is right around the corner,” Wisness said. “We are really going to just focus on continuing to get better with our technique. Good technique doesn’t get old.”
He added that the Rams’ goal of reaching the state tournament may be a reach, but they’ll continue to improve.
“Sometimes when we’re working on different aspects of the game, our scores get worse at first, but it benefits our bowlers in the long run,” Wisness said. “I’m always thinking big picture as a coach.”
