Pierce County prosecutors charged a 20-year-old woman on Friday with first-degree murder in the death of a man wounded in August during a shooting at a Wauna-area market.
A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of Laura K. Sorensen during her re-arraignment in Superior Court. Her $1.5 million bail remained unchanged.
Sorensen originally was charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault after she allegedly opened fire on three men inside the grocery store at 14220 92nd Ave. NW.
One of the wounded men, David Long, 40, died of his injuries in October, leading to the increased charge.
Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said his deputies waited to file the murder charge so they could have time to review all the reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“We wanted time to confirm what we already believed,” Lindquist said.
Sorensen remains charged with the other count of attempted murder and first-degree assault, and her earlier not-guilty pleas to those counts remain intact.
Prosecutors contend Sorensen walked into the market with a .357 magnum revolver and started shooting at the men inside on Aug. 11.
A bullet hit Long in the upper right arm, continued through his chest and exited his back, court records show. A 78-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 20-year-old man apparently was hit with bullet shrapnel.
