The Gig Harbor boys track and field team hadn’t won a state title since 2007, but the Tides made good on their usual array of talent at May’s Star Track XXX championships.

The team won 12 medals to edge Mead and Federal Way for first place, and senior Justin Browne was responsible for much of the success.

Browne won three individual medals, placing second in the 100-meter dash, second in the triple jump and first in the long jump. He also anchored the Tides’ 400 relay, which finished in 41.43 seconds and barely missed a new meet record.

Gig Harbor’s girls were fourth, and junior Courtney Jost won the triple jump.
