Lakes High set the standard for SPSL 3A football teams, winning 30 straight league games. Peninsula had never beaten the Lancers before 2012.
That changed when the teams met Oct. 26 at Roy Anderson Field. The Seahawks dominated both sides of the ball in a 30-7 victory.
Peninsula followed that up with convincing playoff wins over Oak Harbor and Nathan Hale. The program’s first trip to the state quarterfinals in 20 years ended with a loss to national powerhouse Bellevue, but a lot of good memories were made along the way.
During the course of its 9-3 season, the Seahawks won eight straight games and outscored those opponents 344-45. Quarterback Austin Filkins was the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
