In 33 seasons as Peninsula’s baseball coach, Marco Malich accomplished a lot. His teams won 13 league titles and qualified for the state playoffs 12 times.
In 2012, the Seahawks’ roster was stacked with skill. Pitcher Andrew Mattingly, shortstop Alex Weymiller and outfielder Blake Valley were particularly outstanding, and the team won the league title, reached state and finished 18-5-1.
Malich announced his retirement shortly after the season ended.
“I wasn’t going to retire until I got the program back into contention,” he said.
