A man accused of fatally stabbing his cousin in Auburn and later throwing coffee on a detective in an attempt to escape from an interview room faces three counts related to the incidents.
King County prosecutors on Thursday charged Bradley Courville, 24, with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, disarming a law enforcement officer and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
He is set to be arraigned Jan. 10.
Auburn police officers called Dec. 12 to a home in the 4000 block of Auburn Way South found Quinn Oliver, 26, dead of a stab wound to the neck. Courville allegedly was hiding in the bushes and turned himself in after police set up a perimeter around the scene.
Charging documents give this account:
Courville told detectives he’d experienced a “spiritual moment,” and took a butcher knife outside. When Oliver called him a derogatory name, Courville stabbed him.
“The defendant admitted to stabbing the victim in the present case simply because the victim called him a name,” according to the documents.
After being arrested and taken to the police station, Courville threw coffee on the detective he was speaking with and turned off the lights in the room in an attempt to escape. He struggled with the detective and temporarily disarmed him of his gun before other officers came to help subdue him.
Courville was convicted in 2010 of second-degree robbery in Pierce County and in 2006 of unlawful display of a weapon for nearly shooting at a police officer.
