A backcountry skier who suffered a broken leg above the Heather Meadows ranger station was rescued by members of the Skagit Mountain Rescue team who happened to be training in the area about 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29.
Members of Bellingham Mountain Rescue and employees from the Mt. Baker Ski Area assisted in bringing the injured 26-year-old Ohio man by toboggan to the ski area, according to a statement from the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.
He fell in the area of Herman Saddle near Table Mountain, breaking his lower right leg. He was given first aid at the ski area and taken by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital.
