San Jaun Annelid. (Statesman staff)

Hook: Size 12.

Body: Chenille with ends burned to a taper.

Tip: Many fly anglers shun the worm, but look deep in their fly boxes and you can usually find one. And if you can’t figure out how to tie this “fly”, you may want to sell the fly rod and take up golf. It’s no secret why it works, it’s the stigma of “bait fishing” that keeps the worm imitation socked away in many fly boxes. But it meets my criteria for a good dredging fly: effective and easy to tie. You won’t sweat leaving a few of these on the bottom.
