The man wanted in connection with a shooting at a Pasco gas station the day after Christmas was arrested Monday in New Mexico.

Fernando J. Loera, 21, was taken into custody in Clovis, N.M., said a Pasco Police Department news release.

Pasco officials will be working with law enforcement in New Mexico to have Loera brought back to Washington.

The shooting happened at 10th Avenue and Lewis Street during an argument between Loera, a known gang member, and another man outside the gas station, said police.

The victim was shot in the leg and his injury was not considered life-threatening. Authorities said they believed the shooting was gang-related.

Police have not said if they also found the blue-silver pickup with an extended cab that Loera drove to and away from the scene.

Walla Walla man arrested in alleged stabbing

A 28-year-old Walla Walla man was arrested Friday morning for allegedly stabbing his wife, puncturing one of her lungs.

Police went to the home of Alberto Luna Martinez at 9:15 p.m. Thursday after being called out for an "unknown problem" but found the home locked and empty, said a news release from the Walla Walla Police Department.

An hour later, officers were called to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, where Martinez's 42-year-old wife was being treated in the emergency room for knife wounds to her chest and arm.

Martinez and his wife, whose name was not released, were interviewed at the hospital but officers did not have enough evidence to arrest Martinez for assault.

Instead, he was arrested on an unrelated warrant and booked into the Walla Walla County jail.

Detectives eventually determined his wife's injuries were not accidental and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree assault when he appeared in court Friday morning on the outstanding warrant.
