Michael Carter-Williams picked the perfect time to get his game back on track.
Syracuse’s slick-passing sophomore point guard had a career-high 18 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds on Monday to lead the seventh-ranked Orange to a 96-62 home victory over Central Connecticut State.
The home win gave Orange coach Jim Boeheim his 902nd career win.
Syracuse completed its non-conference schedule with its 32nd straight home win, the longest active streak in the nation. Boeheim tied Bob Knight for second all-time in victories among NCAA Division I men’s coaches, behind only Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski (939).
TOP 25 MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
No. 5 Indiana 69, at Iowa 65: Cody Zeller had 15 of his 19 points in the second half and the Hoosiers opened Big Ten play by holding off the Hawkeyes.
Victor Oladipo added 14 points for the Hoosiers (13-1 overall, 1-0 Big Ten).
Aaron White had 15 points to lead Iowa (11-3, 0-1).
At No. 9 Minnesota 76, No. 18 Michigan State 63: Andre Hollins had 22 points and six assists, and Rodney Williams added 15 points and six rebounds to lift the Golden Gophers (13-1, 1-0 Big Ten) to a victory over the Spartans (11-3, 0-1).
No. 14 Cincinnati 70, at No. 24 Pittsburgh: Cashmere Wright scored 18 points and Sean Kilpatrick added 16 to help the Bearcats (13-1, 1-0) surge past the Panthers (12-2, 0-1) in Big East play.
PAC-12 MEN
At Oregon State 84, Texas-Pan American 59: Ahmad Starks scored 21 points and Joe Burton added 18 and a season-high 10 rebounds to help the Beavers (10-3) pull away from the Broncs (7-9).
At Oregon 56, Nevada 43: Carlos Emory and Tony Woods had 13 points each for the Ducks (11-2), who will take a perfect home record into the new year following a win against the Wolf Pack (9-6).
PAC-12 WOMEN
No. 1 UConn 95, at Oregon 51: Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 19 points and the Huskies celebrated their return to the top of the rankings with a victory over the Ducks (2-10).
Earlier in the day, the Huskies took over the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press poll for the first time since the end of the 2010-11 season. They followed with their 12th win to remain undefeated.
At No. 16 UCLA 73, Saint Joseph’s 65: Thea Lemberger tied her career high with four 3-pointers while scoring 20 points to lead the Bruins (9-2) over the Hawks (8-5).
FASTBREAKS
Markisha Wright scored 20 points for No. 5 Notre Dame (10-1) in a 128-55 rout of St. Francis, Pa. (5-6). … Hurricanes senior center Reggie Johnson will miss much of the Atlantic Coast Conference season with a broken left thumb. A starter since his sophomore season, he has played in seven games and is averaging 12.6 points and 10.1 rebounds.
