Hilltop Alpine Race Team, 4:30-7:30 p.m.T uesdays and Thursdays, Hilltop Chalet at Hilltop Ski Area, 7014 Abbott Road. A competitive ski team that will be racing in the Youth Ski League against other youth ski teams from the Anchorage area. This program is for ages 7-13, who are intermediate to advanced skiers. Program includes: professional coaching by experienced racers, pre-season dryland training, running gates, video analysis of students skiing, 3-hour pratices twice a week. Craig Medred: Covering the Iditarod or Shivering in the Cold Dark?, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Kinley's, 3230 New Seward Highway. As a reporter, Craig Medred covered the sinking of a cruise ship, the disappearance of mountain climbers, and the whales trapped in Barrow. Along the way, he has sailed a small boat across the Gulf, climbed on Denali glaciers, traveled the Iditarod Trail on foot and by snowmachine, and spent a lot of time shivering in the cold dark. At the monthly luncheon for Alaska Professional Communicators, Craig, now with Alaska Dispatch, will share stories of covering the Iditarod. Public welcome. $19-$25. Students will learn to diagonal stride, stop, turn, use poles, climb hills and move over varied terrain. Other topics discussed include appropriate clothing, equipment and waxing for conditions.
