Gay marriage should be legal in the United States, because homosexuals should be given all of the same rights as heterosexuals.

There are 1,100 federal benefits to marriage. Keeping gay marriage illegal would continue to deny those benefits to homosexual couples.

Certain statistics also show gay marriage lowers divorce rates. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage in 2004, and according to a 2010 survey, it has the lowest divorce rate in the country.

Why should it be anyone’s business, besides the people who are getting married, who people marry? If two people love each other, they should be able to publicly announce their love.

Those who don’t support gay marriage believe it’s wrong because the dictionary definition of marriage is “between a man and a woman.” However, the dictionary can be changed or amended as our society advances.

There are more than 100,000 children up for adoption. Gay marriage would help put those kids in loving homes.
