So many choices for the top 10 athletes of 2012

Usually, this space is reserved for a specific Gig Harbor or Peninsula high school athlete, but with the calendar officially turned to 2013, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the best athletes of 2012.

Usually, this space is reserved for a specific Gig Harbor or Peninsula high school athlete, but with the calendar officially turned to 2013, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the best athletes of 2012.

It’s always a tough process to single out certain athletes. Should someone be rewarded for excellence in one sport, or should extra credit be given to those who are merely good in multiple sports?

What about team sports versus individual sports? Is it harder to stand out if you work on an 11-man unit on the football field, or if you’re a golfer and compete individually?

With those factors in mind, there was no way to make a list of the 10 best athletes of the past year without leaving someone out. It doesn’t mean they weren’t appreciated. It just means my perceptions were different than someone else’s.

Based on their performances in the past 12 months alone, here are my top 10 athletes of 2012:
