Shortly after she scored perhaps the biggest goal of her team’s season — the lone tally in the Tides’ 1-0 win over rival Bellarmine Prep in October — Vaughn was involved in a car collision that could’ve been far worse than it was.

Only eight days later, the junior forward suited up for Gig Harbor’s state playoff game against Issaquah, and although the Tides saw their season end in a 2-0 loss, a broken arm wasn’t about to break Vaughn’s spirit.

“I don’t think this game really defines our season,” she said. “We had a really great season, and I’m really happy with how it all worked out.”
