The Sumner School District has announced that kindergarten registration will begin Jan. 7.
All children enrolling for the 2013-2014 school year must be 5-years-old by Aug. 31.
When registering a child, parents should bring proof of their child's birth date; immunization information and their child's health history; names and phone numbers of parents, physicians and emergency contact when the parent/guardian cannot be reached.
Some elementary schools do offer full-time kindergarten. Students enrolled in the full-time program receive extra instruction time to learn basic skills for first grade and have the same school calendar as students in grades 1 to 5. All children enrolled in the full-time program must qualify through participation in a screening process held later this spring.
For more information about registration, families can call their neighborhood school after Jan. 7 or visit www.sumnersd.org to download a registration packet. Completed forms can be returned to the school.
