A good way to explore the Hurricane Ridge area at Olympic National Park is to take part in a ranger-led snowshoe walks at 2 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Monday holidays through March 31.
The walks take about 90 minutes, cover less than one mile in length and are first-come, first-served. People should sign up at the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center information desk 30 minutes before the scheduled walk.
A suggested $5 donation from each participant helps the park continue the program and maintain snowshoes.
Organized groups, such as youth or school groups, must make advance reservations for snowshoe walks. Group outings are available by reservation Saturdays, Sundays and Monday holidays at 10:30 a.m. Group leaders can call the park at 360-565-3136 for reservations or more information.
All vehicles, regardless of tire type or weather conditions, must carry chains when traveling above Heart O’ the Hills entrance station on Hurricane Ridge Road through April 1.
