Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel ran for two touchdowns, threw for two more and had a Cotton Bowl-record 516 total yards as 10th-ranked Texas A&M wrapped up its first Southeastern Conference season with a 41-13 win over No. 12 Oklahoma on Friday night in Arlington, Texas.
The Aggies (11-2) never trailed after Manziel tiptoed the sideline for a 23-yard TD run on their opening drive.
Oklahoma (10-3), which like the Aggies entered the game with a five-game winning streak, went three-and-out on its first three drives after halftime.
Manziel set an FBS bowl record with his 229 yards rushing on 17 carries, and completed 22 of 34 passes for 287 yards.
Manziel became the fourth FBS quarterback with 20 touchdowns passing and 20 touchdowns rushing in the same season. The others were Auburn’s Cam Newton, Florida’s Tim Tebow and Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick.
PLAYERS SENT HOME
Alabama coach Nick Saban has sent home two backup players from the BCS championship game for violating curfew.
A person with knowledge of the decision identified the players as freshman linebackers Dillon Lee and Ryan Anderson.
A statement from Saban announced the disciplinary action.
Lee played in eight games, mostly on kickoff coverage. He intercepted a pass in his college debut against Michigan in the season opener and made his only tackle in that game.
Anderson didn’t play this season.
The second-ranked Crimson Tide will play No. 1 Notre Dame on Monday night in Miami.
MONTANA TO TULANE
Former Huskies quarterback Nick Montana, son of Hall of Famer Joe Montana, signed a national letter of intent to play for Tulane next season after spending this past season at the junior college level.
The younger Montana threw for 2,652 yards and 22 touchdowns at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
Tulane says Montana, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is enrolling this spring. He played in six games for Washington in 2011, completing 24 of 42 passes for 226 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
OFF TO THE NFL
No. 4 Florida is losing at least three underclassmen to the NFL.
Tight end Jordan Reed, the team’s leading receiver this season, declared for the NFL draft. He joined safety Matt Elam and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd as Gators players skipping their senior season.
LSU says safety Eric Reid, cornerback Tharold Simon, running back Spencer Ware and punter Brad Wing are entering the NFL draft.
Georgia All-America linebacker Jarvis Jones is headed to the next level as well.
Wisconsin center Travis Frederick says he’s skipping his senior year to enter the draft. He will graduate with a degree in computer engineering this spring.
Syracuse offensive tackle Justin Pugh is also forgoing his final year of eligibility.
