Rescue crews narrowed the area they were searching in the rugged Cascade foothills for a missing skydiver, but hadn’t found the man as darkness fell.
There’s been no sign of Kurt Ruppert since he jumped out of a helicopter at 6,500 feet Thursday. The 29-year-old from Lake City, Fla., was wearing a special wing suit with fabric under the arms to allow him to glide.
King County sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West said about 145 searchers were combing the Mount Si area east of Seattle. They focused on a quarter-mile-square near the summit, and continued searching other areas.
West said they based the decision to narrow the search area on the flight pattern of the helicopter he jumped from and his cellphone’s location just before the jump.
