Jeff June, a marine biologist and partner at Natural Resources Consultants, will be the featured speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the Puget Sound Flyfishers. June’s organization has recovered and removed 4,200 derelict nets and 2,000 pots from Washington waters.
June has been the manager of Northwest Straits Commission Derelict Fishing Gear Project for the past 10 years. The commission’s initiative has concentrated on methods for finding and removing derelict gear around Puget Sound but has recently expanded its efforts to include neglected nets on coastal rivers.
Dinner, for $15, will be available before the presentation and the fly-fishing group’s regular monthly meeting. Activities begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Tower Lanes banquet room, 6323 Sixth Ave., Tacoma.
