Parents and Friends for Tacoma Public Schools will host a community meeting, “Learn About How Our Schools are Funded,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The event will include a presentation by a finance department representative explaining how last year’s state Supreme Court McCleary decision may impact school funding, and how Tacoma’s proposed $500 million school bond would benefit Tacoma schools.
The meeting will take place at King’s Books, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma.
Some members of the Tacoma School Board are tiptoeing carefully around the idea of charter schools – and whether they want to signal their intent to become an authorizer of the independently run, publicly funded schools.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office will meet with citizens and discuss how to best serve the community at a series of quarterly meetings.
Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. and last about an hour.
Touchet and Lowden citizens will meet Tuesday in the Touchet High School library, 90 Champion St.
Kids who stutter, their families and adults who stutter are invited to attend a workshop Saturday in Tacoma.

I applaud the Tacoma School Board for signaling an interest in becoming a public charter school authorizer. It’s time that our community learned more about public charter schools.
