First Lady Michelle Obama presented a national award Wednesday to representatives of the Pierce County Library System in a White House ceremony.
Kyle Cox, executive director of Mid-Columbia Libraries, has been named to the Library Council of Washington by Secretary of State Sam Reed.
The council was formed to promote access to library and information resources for Washington citizens and has an advisory role, according to a release on the library district's website.
Cox will represent public libraries serving more than 100,000 people.
The Digital Bookmobile National Tour will stop Wednesday at the Richland Public Library, showcasing the local library’s free eBook download service. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m.
Pierce County students can combine their love of art and reading by helping create a new Pierce County Library card design. The contest to find two winning designs begins this week and runs through May 3.
