A winter storm that moved through the Treasure Valley overnight only dropped about an inch of snow on the ground but it left behind some icy and slippery roads in its wake.
Dispatchers with Ada and Canyon county sheriff’s offices and Idaho State Police are all reporting slow going Thursday morning but also say drivers have been careful and crashes have been at a minimum as of 10 a.m.
A semi truck slid out on the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near the Garrity Road early Thursday morning but traffic is now moving slowly through the area while crews work on that crash, ISP officials said.
That crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. and both lanes were blocked until about 7 a.m., according to ISP reports.
The snow is expected to stop by later this morning, although there may be an occasional snow shower throughout the day. By the time the snow moves through, there could be an additional 1/2 inch on the ground, according to National Weather Service reports.
Drivers should expect snow covered roads all day long, including the commute home from work. The estimated high temperature for the Boise area Thursday is 34 degrees, but it was 28 degrees at the Boise Airport at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and is not expected to get much warmer than that.
There is a 20 percent chance of snow Friday for the Boise area but the weather is expected to change for the weekend, when it is expected to be clear and cold, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the low 20s and overnight lows in the single digits.
