The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived rookie running back Chris Rainey after he was arrested Thursday morning.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Rainey was charged with simple battery after being accused of slapping his girlfriend in the face. The incident took place in Gainesville, Florida.

"Chris Rainey's actions this morning were extremely disappointing," Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. "Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

A 2012 fifth-round draft pick out of Florida, Rainey was primarily used a kick return specialist, bringing back 39 kickoffs for 1,035 yards this past season. He also had 102 yards on 26 carries with two touchdowns.
