After officially joining Congress last week, Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, is already back in the region and kicking off a month-long listening tour to solicit input on important issues from members of the community. While home this week, Kilmer will have a full schedule including meeting with local military and small business leaders.
Kilmer on Thursday met with military leaders and received a briefing and tour from Naval Base Kitsap. He will receive a briefing and tour from Joint Base Lewis-McChord Friday as well. It was previously announced that Kilmer will serve on the Armed Services Committee, as well as the Science and Technology Committee in the House.
Also on Friday, Kilmer will attend events put on by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber and Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce. He will make brief remarks to the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce. These meetings will be followed up with further listening tour stops on economic development with constituents and community members.
“Our listening tour will allow me to hear directly from members of our community so I can share their ideas and work for them in DC,” Kilmer said. “The discussions I have at home on issues like strengthening our military, supporting our servicemen and women, and helping our small businesses grow and hire more people will play an important role in shaping policy in Congress.”
Future stops on Kilmer’s listening tour will be announced shortly.
