The Jazz Live at Marine View series offers consistently good jazz for free in the beautiful acoustics of Marine View Church in Northeast Tacoma, and they’re kicking off the new year in style.
First in the series of monthly shows is progressive jazz quartet McTuff featuring Joe Doria, playing this Sunday evening.
Since the 1990s, the Northwest-raised Doria has been composing and performing on the Hammond B3 organ, piano and varied vintage keyboards, merging styles. This Sunday he’s joined by guitarist Andy Coe, Cliff Colon on saxophone and Tarik Abouzied on drums to form the ensemble McTuff, a group that began in 2008 as an homage to jazz organ greats Jimmy Smith and Captain Jack McDuff. The ensemble has played around the country at festivals from Bumbershoot to the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
The concert begins at 5 p.m. Sunday at Marine View Church, 8459 Eastside Drive NE, Tacoma.
