BELLINGHAM - Interfaith Coalition's severe weather shelters will be open through Sunday night, Jan. 13, in response to the below-freezing temperatures forecasted through the weekend.
The shelters open when there is a snowstorm or the temperature is in the low 20s or below. The shelters served nearly 50 people on their first night open this year, Thursday, Jan. 10.
People can call 360-788-7983 daily to see if the shelters are open.
Two shelters will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights: a men's shelter at Faith Lutheran Church, 2750 McLeod Road, and a women's and children's shelter at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 1326 N. Garden St. The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 the next morning, and dinner and breakfast will be provided.
Salt on the Street will provide transportation to the shelters from 5 to 8 p.m., with pickups at the Rainbow Center, 209 W. Holly St., and Church on the Street, 901 W. Holly St.
