Pierce County prosecutors have charged a man who was shot in the hand after allegedly breaking into a Tacoma home and fighting with a family roused from their sleep.
Ricci Bibbs, 23, faces single counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and making a false statement to a public servant in connection with the July 29 incident.
A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday. Prosecutors filed the charges after recently getting the case from Tacoma police.
According to court documents:
Bibbs and an unidentified man kicked in the front door of the house in the 1000 block of South Trafton Street, waking a woman sleeping upstairs. As she left her bedroom to investigate the noise, the unidentified man stuck a .40-caliber pistol in her face and she screamed.
That woke one of the woman’s sons, who rushed to her defense and began struggling with the unidentified man. The son was shot in the stomach during the fight.
The woman’s boyfriend then woke up and swung a baseball bat at Bibbs. It’s unclear how Bibbs was shot in the hand.
Shortly after the shooting, Bibbs sought treatment for a gunshot wound at Tacoma General Hospital. He told doctors and police he was shot while seeking pain pills.
Bibbs has prior convictions for assault and burglary, according to court records.
