LYNDEN - To mark the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, Lynden Human Life is holding a memorial service.
Abortion opponents will gather at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Monumenta Cemetery at the northeast corner of Guide Meridian and Front Street.They will be prayers, singing and reflection during the event.

LYNDEN - The city's sales tax will increase from 8.5 percent to 8.7 percent beginning April 1.
In November, Lynden voters approved a two-tenths of 1 percent sales tax increase to pay for street improvements.
The increase means shoppers will pay an additional 20 cents on a $100 purchase.
LYNDEN - Nobody was hurt when a fire destroyed a singlewide mobile home and two cars late Monday, March 18, west of Lynden.
The resident of 301 W. Badger Road is moving out, so he wasn't home at the time, said Whatcom County Fire Marshal Will Anderson.
Adding together the value of everything lost in the flames - some tools, clothes, cars and the home - Anderson estimated the loss at $8,000.

The 1 p.m. event in the gym of the Clay residence, 776 H St. Road in Lynden, is part of a celebration of International Women's Day.
Lynden-based Days for Girls International provides feminine hygiene kits to impoverished women and girls around the world. Without such supplies, they are isolated for days during menstruation, according to the nonprofit.
