Tri City Toastmasters offering free leadership workshop

The Tri City Toastmasters are offering a free leadership workshop from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Jan. 25 at McDonald's, 2202 W. Court St., Pasco.

Guests will learn about parliamentary procedure, "experience the flavor of a typical Toastmasters meeting" and gain practical leadership skills, according to a news release. The Toastmasters are a nonprofit organization focused on public speaking and leadership.

    Catherine Riordan has held the position since August 2009 but said she's going to move on to other academic pursuits, according to a statement from the university.

    The provost and vice president for academic affairs is the chief academic officer at WWU and has senior leadership responsibility, serving as president when the president is unavailable. The job includes policy and decision responsibility for academic programs, faculty, academic budgets and academic facilities planning, as well as representing the university to outside organizations.

  • Big Bend plans events for Black History Month

    Eric Davis is the featured speaker for Black History Month at Big Bend Community College.

    Davis will discuss diversity management, intercultural communications, leadership development, conflict resolution and student success strategies.

    The free event begins at noon Tuesday at the college, 7662 Chanute St. N.E., Moses Lake.
