A driver who reportedly crashed into two parked cars and then a light pole early Sunday died after the vehicle became engulfed in flames, according to Tacoma police.
Fire crews responded to the crash at 2:42 a.m. at North 1st Street and North Tacoma Avenue.
Witnesses told police that a recklessly driven vehicle had been heading northbound on Tacoma Avenue South, south of Division Avenue, before it crashed into the cars and then the pole, at which point it became engulfed in flames, according to police.
Firefighters put out the blaze.
Officials had not yet identified the gender or the identity of the deceased, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
The Tacoma Police Department Fatality Accident Team was investigating the crash Sunday.
