All lanes of South Tacoma Way were reopened Monday after crews cleaned up the part of the old Nalley Valley viaduct that crashed onto the street Friday.
The fallen section was part of a “tetrapod” support for the roadway that until recently carried eastbound traffic along state Route 16. The old viaduct is being demolished to make room for a wider replacement.
No one was hurt, and a safety barrier was in place Friday, but gas and water service in the area were disrupted.
After the accident, crews closed South Tacoma Way between South Pine and Wilkeson streets. Workers cleared the debris over the weekend and worked to restore gas and water.
The damaged shoulder and one lane were repaved Sunday night.
The support broke at its base as crews were removing the last of the roadway from the top of the tetrapod.
Crews have stopped demolition of the old viaduct pending a review of the operation, according to the state Department of Transportation.
