The Arizona Cardinals’ list of potential coaches lost a name when the San Diego Chargers hired Mike McCoy on Tuesday.
Now the Cardinals are going to take a look at Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, reportedly setting up an interview with the man who provided the game plan that led to the Seahawks’ 58-0 victory over Arizona on Dec. 9.
The other known candidates to replace the fired Ken Whisenhunt are Cardinals defensive coordinator and Tacoma native Ray Horton, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. Horton was a star at the University of Washington and Mount Tahoma High.
Bevell, 43, has Arizona roots. He grew up in Scottsdale, and attended Chaparral High. He spent a redshirt freshman season at Northern Arizona before leaving for a two-year Mormon mission. When Bevell returned, he enrolled at Wisconsin and quarterbacked the Badgers to a Rose Bowl victory over UCLA in 1994.
McCoy was Denver’s offensive coordinator before getting hired by San Diego.
BRADLEY TO EAGLES?
Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley arrived in Philadelphia for his second interview with the Eagles, suggesting the nearly three-week search to replace Andy Reid could be nearing an end.
Bradley first met with the Eagles in Atlanta on Saturday, a day before Seattle lost to the Falcons in a NFC divisional playoff game. He’s also expected to interview with Jacksonville this week.
MILUS LET GO
The Denver Broncos promoted Cory Undlin to secondary coach, replacing Ron Milus, who had coached defensive backs under John Fox for the past four seasons.
The Broncos said Milus isn’t being made the scapegoat for the Broncos’ stunning surrender of that 70-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds to play that led to their 38-35 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in double-overtime Saturday.
Milus’ contract wasn’t renewed. Milus played for Lincoln High and UW.
“I appreciate all of Ron Milus’ hard work and wish him the best,” coach John Fox said.
