Arne Hanna offers free-swim Fridays for middle schoolers

BELLINGHAM - Local middle schoolers will have a chance to splash around for free for a few hours on Friday nights, starting Jan. 18.

Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, 1114 Potter St., is offering free swimming time from 8 to 10 p.m. Fridays through Feb. 22 for kids of middle school age.

For more information, people can call the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department at 360-778-7000.

  • Meals available for kids during summer in Pasco

    The Pasco School District will be offering free meals to children 18 and younger throughout the summer.

    Meals will be served Monday through Friday at the following locations:

    Chiawana High School. Breakfast from 7:45 to 8 a.m. June 10 to July 3; lunch from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. June 10 to June 25; lunch from 11 to 11:30 a.m. June 26 to July 3; lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 12-16.

  • Ski to Sea Junior Race to pack Lake Padden Park

    BELLINGHAM - Whatcom County residents planning a peaceful day in the park Saturday, May 18, should stay away from Lake Padden, because the park will be packed full of families for the Ski to Sea Junior Race.

    About 200 six-person teams will compete in the junior race, which will take over the park from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Saturday.

    The race consists of five legs: running, a three-legged race, biking, soccer and an obstacle course.
