Norv Turner wasn't out of job long, as the fired San Diego Chargers head coach on Thursday was named the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
Turner spent the past six years as the Chargers head coach and will rejoin new Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski. Chudzinski, named Browns head coach last week, was assistant head coach and tight ends coach under Turner with the Chargers from 2009-10.
"Norv has been one of the most respected offensive coaches in the NFL over the last 25-30 years, and he has had a tremendous amount of success at each one of his stops -- as a position coach, coordinator and head coach," said Chudzinski on Thursday. "I was able to learn a great deal in the time that I worked for him in San Diego, and I expect that having him as our offensive coordinator will make a big impact on that side of the ball."
Turner had a record of 56-40 with the Chargers and guided the club to playoff appearances in each of his first three years, but was fired after a 7-9 mark in 2012. He has also served as head coach in Oakland (2004-05) and Washington (1994-2000), posting a career record of 114-122-1, but has had tremendous success as a coordinator.
The 60-year-old California native helped the Cowboys to back-to-back Super Bowl titles following the 1992 and '93 seasons as offensive coordinator under Jimmy Johnson. He was also an offensive coordinator with San Diego (2001), Miami (2002-03) and San Francisco (2006).
Turner's son, Scott, was named the team's wide receivers coach. The Browns also named Mike Sullivan offensive line coach and Brad Roll strength and conditioning coach, while Chudzinski decided to retain Chris Tabor and George Warhop from last year's staff.
