TRACKING LOCAL GOLFERS ON THE PGA TOUR
This week: Humana Challenge, through Sunday, PGA West Resort (Palmer, Nicklaus, La Quinta CC), La Quinta, Calif.
In the field: Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley, Tacoma’s Troy Kelly and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
Second-round scores: Gonzales shot an even-par 72 at La Quinta, Kelly had a 1-over 73 at La Quinta, and Stanley carded a 3-over 75 at Palmer.
Positions: Stanley (2-under 142) is tied for 130th, Gonzales (1-over 145) is tied for 145th, and Kelly (2-over 146) is tied for 149th – all trailing co-leaders Roberto Castro and James Hahn (14-under 130).
Recap: It was a perfect day for scoring – there were 19 rounds of 65 or better – and none of the locals could take advantage. Consequently, all of them are in serious danger of missing the cut after today’s third round. … Stanley was 2 under on his round through eight holes but ran into trouble at No. 9, hitting his drive into the left-side lake and ending up with double bogey. That started a 5-over run the rest of the way. … Gonzales was all over the map, especially on the par-5 holes. He bogeyed two of them, birdied another and made eagle at No. 11. … Kelly just isn’t getting anything going, making three bogeys and two birdies on Friday.
Tee times today: Kelly at 9:20 a.m. PST at Nicklaus, Stanley at 9:50 a.m. at La Quinta and Gonzales at 10 a.m. at Nicklaus. All go off the 10th firstname.lastname@example.org
