The school at 1120 S. 39th St. in Tacoma is considered historic for its architecture — with sleek lines, symmetry and lack of ornamentation. Completed in 1952, the building was designed by a regionally prominent Tacoma firm, Lea, Pearson and Richards. It is the first Washington post-World War II school added to the National Register.

One of Tacoma’s most historic public school buildings will be first on a list of major school construction projects to be financed as part of the $500 million bond measure approved by voters this month.
BELLINGHAM - The city is holding free informational sessions on the financial incentives, codes and zoning flexibility available to historic and existing city buildings. While the sessions will focus on downtown buildings, the information can be applied to buildings citywide.

Inside our parks While at the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle last week, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said he has directed the National Park Service to undertake an Asian American Pacific Islander theme study. The purpose is to investigate the stories, places and people of Asian American and Pacific Island heritage.
The City Council on Tuesday recognized the cultural and architectural significance of St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral, the Bishop Tuttle Memorial House, the Grand Army of the Republic Hall and the St. Michael's-Carnegie building in Downtown Boise by recommending they're designated local landmarks.
The council must pass a separate ordinance for each building in order to finalize the landmark designation process.
The council was also scheduled to hold a hearing Tuesday on declaring Christ Chapel a landmark. The chapel, located on Broadway Avenue just south of the Boise River, originally served as St. Michael's Church.
University Place will soon have its own museum. The nonprofit University Place Historical Society recently announced it will open the museum in available office space in Windmill Village, the current home of City Hall.
