A gray whale was found dead over the weekend near the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.

State Department of Fish and Wildlife marine mammal specialist Steve Jeffries said it appeared to be a juvenile female about 30 feet long. He said it was emaciated and likely died of starvation.

The Kitsap Sun reported that the whale is believed to be the same one that was seen last week in Tacoma.

A few gray whales die each year in Washington waters. Jeffries said the whale will be towed into deep water in Puget Sound and sunk.
