On Friday, Jan. 18, Laurie Miller, executive director for the Sumner Downtown Association, made the three-hour trek to Silverton, Ore. to visit with the town's chamber director Stacy Palmer and make the respective communities' Sister City relationship official.

As part of a gift basket to Palmer, Miller presented Berryland Cafe's strawberry rhubarb pies, a rhubarb cookbook, bottles of rhubarb wine, four Rhubarb Days wine glasses, rhubarb and strawberry jewelry and T-shirts from several Sumner events.

Miller is now looking forward to Palmer and members of her board to visit Sumner so that Miller can give her the grand tour of all that Sumner has to offer.

Over the next year Miller and Palmer hope to build a relationship between the two towns that will encourage tourism and cross-promotion.

"I took time to visit as many merchants as possible to introduce myself, explain why I was there and share some ideas," Miller said. "The Sumner Downtown Association was warmly welcomed and I could see there was a true excitement for the adventure we will embark upon as Sister Cities."
