T he Washington State Developmental Disability Council will bring a few hundred people to the Legislative Building for a Disability Legislative Reception tonight. The group will meet in the Columbia Room of the Legislative Building from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

  • Boise Bench lawmakers to host open office hours

    District 17 Democratic legislators Senator Elliot Werk and representatives Sue Chew, and John Gannon will be available to meet their Boise Bench constituents starting Tuesday. Office hours will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday, except March 26 and weeks in which the legislators hold a public forum March 26.

    The events will take place at the Borah High School Career Center, 6001 Cassia St., Boise.

    All residents of District 17 are welcome to meet with their legislators to discuss issues of their choosing during these office hours. Members of the public will be met on a first come, first served basis.

  • Bill to aid hydropower projects

    Federal legislation has been reintroduced by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., to promote development of small hydropower and conduit projects.

    Conduit projects fit existing man-made structures, such as canals, with electric generating equipment.

    Her proposed legislation, introduced with Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., also would direct the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to study the feasibility of a streamlined two-year permitting process.

  • Bellingham-area residents can participate in telephone town hall with legislators

    BELLINGHAM - Residents of the 40th Legislative District can participate in a telephone town hall-style meeting Thursday, Jan. 31, with their legislators.

    People who live in south Bellingham and southwest Whatcom County should receive a phone call from Rep. Jeff Morris, D-Mount Vernon, shortly before the 6 p.m. start time. People can answer the call and follow the prompts to participate in the town hall. Otherwise, call 1-877-229-8493 and enter 18646 to participate.

    Morris, Rep. Kristine Lytton, D-Anacortes, and Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, will make short statements then open the call to questions.

  • North Whatcom lawmakers available at telephone town hall

    State legislators representing north Bellingham and the smaller Whatcom County communities will host a town hall meeting over the telephone on Tuesday, March 26.

    The hour-long forum is open to county residents and might be of interest to constituents who didn't attend the forum with the three lawmakers on March 16 in Ferndale.

    Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale; Rep. Vincent Buys, R-Lynden; and Rep. Jason Overstreet, R-Lynden, will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Call 1-877-229-8493 and enter code 17803# to participate.
