A Stage 1 burn ban was lifted in Pierce County on Tuesday, according to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

Cold, stagnant weather has forced various levels of air-quality burn bans throughout January.

During a Stage 1 ban, burning is not allowed in fireplaces or uncertified wood stoves. Officials remind residents that burning garbage always is illegal and that stoves used to heat with wood should not emit excess smoke.
