A candlelight vigil tonight will honor Teekah Lewis, a 2 1/2-year-old girl who disappeared Jan. 23, 1999, from a Tacoma bowling alley.

“I hate the 23rd of January,” said her mother, Theresa Lewis. “I don’t even want to wake up on that day, but I do it. I do it for Teekah.”

She went missing from New Frontier Lanes that night while her mother and other family members knocked down pins. The brown-eyed girl was last seen about 10:15 p.m., playing near a video game. Her family searched for about 15 minutes before alerting an off-duty Tacoma police officer at the scene.

Teekah’s family holds the vigil every year at the location of the now-defunct bowling alley, trying to raise awareness about her disappearance in hopes someone will come forward with new information.

“We know somebody out there knows something,” Theresa Lewis said. “Fourteen years is way too long for any child to be missing.”

In addition to the vigil, Teekah’s family is collecting clothing and toys for homeless shelters, as well as arts and crafts and toys for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center.

The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. at 4702 S. Center St. Teekah’s family will be at the location from 5-9 p.m.
