About 33 grams of marijuana were dropped in a grocery store parking lot late Tuesday after an armed man foiled a drug deal and then stole the pot, Tacoma police said Wednesday.

The incident started about 10 p.m. in the 1300 block of South 38th Street, where a man carrying a cardboard box full of bagged marijuana waited near his car for the person he was meeting, police said.

An armed man approached and pointed a gun at the man with the drugs. The robber grabbed the cardboard box and fled, dropping several small plastic bags of marijuana as he ran, police said.

The pot seller’s friend fired two shots at the fleeing robber, hitting two vehicles.

No one was arrested, although police briefly detained the man who fired the gun. He had a license for the gun, which was seized by police.
