A Richland dentist has been fined $5,000 and directed to undergo a substance abuse evaluation after "intentionally overdosing" on Vicodin obtained from his dental practice, state health officials said Thursday.
James W. Huffman had a prescription for the drug, but was charged with unprofessional conduct for obtaining it from the stock at his office rather than through a pharmacy or directly from the prescribing doctor, documents said.
The charges were based on allegations he used the prescription drug other than for legal or therapeutic purposes.
Huffman admitted to the unprofessional conduct charges and agreed to pay the fine and undergo evaluation, documents said.
