BELLINGHAM - Immigration rights, Islam in prisons and climate change are a few of the topics of Western Washington University's World Issues Forum talks this quarter.
The forums, put on by Fairhaven College, run from noon to 1:20 p.m. Wednesdays through March 6 in the Fairhaven Auditorium. For more details on the forums, go to wwu.edu/fairhaven/news/worldissuesforum.
Here's a list of events, all of which are free and open to the public:
-- Jan. 30: "Fact and Fiction about Islam in Prison: Assessing Prisoner Radicalization in Post-9/11 America," with SpearIt, an assistant professor of law at Saint Louis University.
-- Feb. 6: "Nicaragua Then and Now: Long Term Impacts of U.S. Policy," with teacher Pamela Fitzpatrick and journalist Paul Dix.
-- Feb. 13: "Estamos in la Lucha: Immigrant Women Light the Fires of Resistance," with Christina López, a Seattle-based immigrant rights activist and Radical Women organizer.
-- Feb. 20: "They Like to Work Bent Over: Latino Migrant Health and the Normalization of Inequality," with Seth Holmes, an assistant professor of health and social behavior at the University of California at Berkeley.
-- Feb. 27: "Just Getting Warmed Up: Why the Arctic and Antarctic Matter to Everyone," with Eric Steig, an isotope geochemist at the University of Washington.
-- March 6: "Immigrant Rights in a Changing World," with Lourdes Fuentes, a Seattle attorney focusing on immigration.
