TRACKING LOCAL GOLFERS ON THE PGA TOUR
This week: Farmers Insurance Open, through Sunday, Torrey Pines North and South Courses, La Jolla, Calif.
In the field: Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley, Tacoma’s Troy Kelly and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
Second-round scores: Stanley shot a 4-over-par 76 on the North Course, and Gonzales had a 6-over 78 on the South Course. Kelly withdrew before his tee time.
Positions: Stanley (7-over 151) finished 145th, and Gonzales (8-over 152) tied for 148th, missing the cut. Tiger Woods (11-under 133) is the tournament leader.
Recap: It was not the showing Stanley envisioned returning to the event he nearly won a year ago. He struggled in two rounds – eight bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. One of those double bogeys came Friday on the par-3 12th, where he missed to the right of the green and did not get up and down. He made four bogeys over his final 13 holes. The back nine of the South Course is a real test, and Gonzales started on No. 10. He bogeyed the first four holes on his way to an opening-nine 42. He made all pars on the second nine. Citing flu-like symptoms, Kelly withdrew on Friday.
Next: Stanley is set to defend his title at next week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona. Also in the field are Kelly and Puyallup’s Ryan Moore.
