The Seattle Seahawks announced Friday they had hired Matt Thomas as vice president of football administration. Thomas replaces John Idzik, who became general manager of the N.Y. Jets last week.
“Matt is a well-respected salary-cap expert and was recommended by many top-ranking NFL executives,” general manager John Schneider said. “I am excited to welcome him to our football family.”
Thomas joins Seattle after spending the past three seasons with Cleveland in the same capacity. He began his NFL career in 1998 with Miami, spending 12 seasons with the Dolphins, including 2009 as Miami’s vice president/general counsel for football administration.
NO CRABTREE CHARGES
Criminal charges won’t be filed against 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree after an alleged sexual assault in a hotel after the team’s playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco’s district attorney said.
“The San Francisco Police Department – Special Victims Unit – completed and submitted a thorough investigation of the allegations against Michael Crabtree,” District Attorney George Gascon said.
San Francisco police said Crabtree was never detained or arrested in the matter, and that he cooperated fully with their investigation.
IDZIK CALLS REVIS
A few hours after Darrelle Revis said he was “speechless” about rampant trade talk, new Jets general manager Idzik reached out to the cornerback.
Idzik told NBC’s Pro Football Talk that Revis “reacted well” to a phone call, which came after the GM, owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan were non-committal about the cornerback’s future.
YOUNG ‘PROBABLY’ SIGNED
Former NFL quarterback Vince Young admitted under oath he probably signed at least some of the documents for a $1.9 million loan he claims he shouldn’t have to repay.
“All I know is I probably could have signed some of them, and I feel like some of them are fishy,” he testified last month.
Young, who has been out of football since he was cut by the Bills before the start of the 2012 season, is fighting a $1.7 million judgment against him obtained by New York-based Pro Player Funding LLC last July. The former University of Texas star has said he wasn’t involved in seeking the high-interest loan, funded during the NFL lockout in 2011, and never got the proceeds.

Vikings rookie left tackle Matt Kalil was added to the NFC’s Pro Bowl roster to replace Redskins tackle Trent Williams, who is injured. … The Cowboys hired Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach three weeks after he joined the Auburn staff in a similar capacity. … The Raiders hired former Green Bay defensive coordinator Bob Sanders as linebackers coach.
