A Tacoma man landed in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase through Tacoma and Lakewood Friday night.

According to Tacoma Police, the chase started in the 9600 block of Sheridan Avenue when an officer observed a recklessly driven vehicle.

The officer caught up with the vehicle, but despite his lights and siren, the vehicle did not stop. Instead, it increased speed, running red lights and weaving in and out of lanes of travel.

The Tacoma officer ended the pursuit and Lakewood officers picked it up, following the vehicle for several minutes before they also gave up.

A records check showed the registered owner of the vehicle was an inactive Department of Corrections violent offender who had been convicted of first degree assault. The original officer located the man at his residence later in the night.

He was booked for reckless driving and felony eluding an officer.
