Boosted by new traffic from the Grand Alliance shipping consortium, the Port of Tacoma last year recorded its best container shipping volumes since 2008.
The Port of Tacoma’s principal business, container shipments, rose by nearly 50 percent in February this year, new statistics from the port show.
An arbitrator said that a picket line of retired longshore union workers that closed a key Port of Tacoma container terminal early Tuesday was not allowed under the provisions of the longshore contract, according to the group that was the subject of the protest.

Container import and export numbers continue to tell a positive story at the Port of Tacoma this year, with November showing a 9.5 percent increase over the same month last year.
