Clay Walker to perform at Benton-Franklin Fair & Rodeo on Aug. 22

Country singer Clay Walker will perform this summer at the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo.

Walker, whose hits include She Won't Be Lonely Long and This Woman and This Man, performs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 on the main stage.

The show comes with admission to the fair, but reserved seats are $15 and go on sale Feb. 1 at the fair office in Kennewick or online at www.benton

franklinfair.com.

The fair runs Aug. 20-24 at the Benton County Fairgrounds on 10th Avenue in Kennewick.

    Foreigner comes to the Benton-Franklin County Fair this summer, the fair board announced Monday.

    The band, whose hits include Cold As Ice, Urgent, Waiting for a Girl Like You, and Hot Blooded, reached its height of popularity in the late '70s to mid-'80s.

  • Scott Walker won't seek reelection to Port of Bellingham Commission

    BELLINGHAM - Port of Bellingham Commissioner Scott Walker announced Tuesday, April 16, that he will step down when his term is over at the end of this year, ending a 22-year run on the port commission.

    Walker made the announcement at the start of the port commission's regular meeting. He said he simply wants more time to relax, although he regrets leaving before waterfront redevelopment gets underway and airport terminal expansion is finished. Walker said he has already stayed on the port commission longer than he had intended.

    "There's always some reason to be here for the next four-year term," Walker said.

  • Fair association signs new lease with county

    The Benton Franklin Fair Association signed a six-month agreement with Benton County commissioners Thursday to lease a portion of the Benton County Fairgrounds.

    The fair association will pay $1,600 a month under the agreement approved by commissionersfor the Sundowns building, race track, horse barns, 4-H arena and RV parking lot, which can be rented separately.

    This opens the door to horse racing and other equine events and could lead to the nonprofit taking a greater role in managing the grounds.
